Her passing was shared via an announcement by her daughter, Oscar-winning actor Laura Dern. Dern, who starred with her mother in several movies like Rambling Rose, called her “my amazing hero plus my precious gift as a mother”, writing that she was present during her final moments. “She was the most wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and caring individual that seemed almost dreamlike,” she expressed. “We were lucky to have her. She is flying with her angels now.” Initial Roles and Rise to Fame The start of her career saw minor parts in TV shows like Perry Mason and the seventies had her appearing alongside Jack Nicholson in the film Chinatown. In the same year, 1974, she performed with Ellen Burstyn in the Martin Scorsese praised film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. The performance earned Ladd her first Oscar nomination as best supporting actress. Later Decades During the eighties, she was seen in the dramatic film Black Widow as well as humorous film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and also took part in the sitcom Alice, a comedy program derived from Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.
