Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction

Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with results like these.”

He finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
