Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
