Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with the Championship side only seven months after instigating disrespectful songs aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a agreement joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year spell with Leeds concluded by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading abusive songs about Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Currently, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift the team he loves out of the bottom places.

Past History Involving the Striker & the Manager

The pair had history before Leeds won promotion to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges
