Seamer Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Worries.

'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer added to England's injury problems after leaving the field early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman because of a side injury during this series.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, taking just three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs while batting among just a trio of teammates to get into double digits.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he resumed on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, on the final ball of the fifth over, he sent down a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test having missed the previous Test.
