The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a girl containing several personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These entities can seize control at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes show the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will change against your will as you play. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
