Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not True Real Fans'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Increase Tension on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "those individuals can't be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded two goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight home loss of 2025.

But the primary talking point was the visitors' second score when the keeper gave away possession well beyond his area.

The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a high pass and took the ball near the touchline.

However, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Moments later when the ball went to Vicario once more, a number of Tottenham fans booed him.

Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and again at full-time.

A particular of those booing sessions really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently booed the situation and booed following, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Dane commented regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals can't be real Tottenham supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind one another moving ahead."

Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.

Ex- Premier League keeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "totally preventable".

"I do understand the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I know the role Vicario is playing. He is a great team player, he is a true leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.

"The keeper was heavily involved in what turned out to be the winning goal."

'It is In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

He stated following the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"That score was a error of mine, I take accountability for it," he said.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad manner. It was an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He said being booed "comes with the game".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to stay more composed, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and poise to reverse results. Today is a bad loss and it is hard to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the next longest-range Premier League score of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too came on Saturday.

The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.

Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was 5 seconds after the clearance.

"I felt like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," he said.

"It amazed me none of the back four went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.

"Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a bit of additional time. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a good sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager

While Vicario's error dominated headlines, this was an overall poor day for Tottenham to continue their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th home defeat of the year in the league, a shared club record along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

The side still have home games against Frank's old side Brentford and title holders Liverpool to play before the end of the year.

Only one of those victories have come after Frank replaced his predecessor in the summer.

"When you're down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated Frank.

"During in a poor run, everything seems to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Every game has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.

"We simply need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in four consecutive at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

And they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two shots on target per game in the Premier League – their lowest rates on record in a single campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Former Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He must accept the stick," the pundit said. "He's accepted a prestigious role at a major football club with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
