McKenna's Stance on Celtic

McKenna referred to Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit twelfth place in England's second tier.

"There have been any of those discussions," the English capital native former Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any part of my focus is currently.

"I have a special position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial phase of the season. Anything external hasn't touched my awareness."

Context and Contractual Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a new four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I am here."

Bellamy's Position

The former striker represented Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is inclined to complete the ongoing global tournament qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are presently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of making those, due to a successful European competition campaign, even if they not end up their group second place.

Given his current position, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until after the play-offs at the minimum.
